Mercury 9.9HP 9.9MH 15″ Shaft – Outboard Motor

The Mercury 9.9MH is a 9.9-horsepower FourStroke built on a 208cc twin-cylinder block, the full-power tune of the powerhead Mercury also rates at 8. Two cylinders keep it smooth at idle and through the midrange, and it’s carbureted with a rope start, twist-grip tiller, 15-inch short shaft, and a complete forward-neutral-reverse gearshift. It draws from an external fuel tank, weighs 88 lbs, and carries the sacrificial anodes and saltwater corrosion protection Mercury builds into its full line.

The 9.9 is the biggest motor a lot of small boats are rated for, and this one uses all of it, planing a light aluminum boat or pushing a loaded skiff through the mooring fields and island passages of Casco Bay. It also earns its keep as a kicker, trolling all day at a smooth idle where a single-cylinder motor would rattle.
