About Mercury 40HP 40EPT 15″ Shaft – Outboard Motor

The Mercury 40EPT is a 40-horsepower FourStroke running a 747cc three-cylinder block with electronic fuel injection, electric start, and power trim and tilt. It rigs with remote mechanical throttle and shift on a 15-inch short shaft, and its 18-amp alternator keeps a battery and a fishfinder fed without strain. At 229 lbs it’s a light motor for the power, with a single-overhead-cam design that pulls hard down low and Mercury’s saltwater corrosion protection through the block and gearcase.

Forty horsepower on a light transom suits a small console skiff or aluminum boat working the tidal rivers and shorelines of the Maine coast, where the short shaft fits shallow-transom hulls. Power trim earns its cost here, letting you tuck the bow in when a Casco Bay chop stands up on the way home. South Port Marine stocks and rigs the 40EPT in South Portland, so call (207) 799-8191, or the Danvers sales office at (978) 904-1924 for the North Shore.
