The Mercury 150L is a 150-horsepower FourStroke built on a 3.0-liter four-cylinder block, one of the biggest four-cylinder displacements in the class, so it makes its power without working hard. Fewer cylinders on a big block keeps the parts count down and the weight at 455 lbs, light for a 150, with electronic fuel injection, power trim and tilt, mechanical controls, and a 20-inch shaft. The valvetrain is maintenance-free, the alternator carries a modern electronics package, and Mercury builds its saltwater corrosion protection through the powerhead, midsection, and gearcase.

A 3.0-liter 150 is the classic single for 18 to 21-foot center consoles and dual consoles, with the low-end torque to plane a full boat and hold cruise into a Casco Bay head sea. Repowering onto this motor often takes weight off the transom compared to an older V6, and the shop’s factory-certified techs rig it clean with OEM parts.
