About Mercury 50HP 50ELPT 20″ Shaft – Outboard Motor
The Mercury 50ELPT is a 50-horsepower FourStroke built on a 995cc four-cylinder block, a big displacement for the rating, which is why it planes a loaded boat without screaming. Electronic fuel injection gives it turnkey starts cold or hot, and the package includes electric start, power trim and tilt, remote mechanical controls, and a 20-inch long shaft. An 18-amp alternator carries a battery and electronics, and at 252 lbs the motor runs a single-overhead-cam valvetrain that’s maintenance-free for life, with saltwater corrosion protection built through it.
Fifty horsepower with that much displacement behind it is a strong match for a mid-size aluminum boat or small fiberglass console running the Casco Bay islands with people and gear aboard. As a repower off an older two-stroke 50, it starts easier, sips fuel by comparison, and hangs on the transom without a big weight penalty. South Port Marine stocks and rigs the 50ELPT in South Portland, so call (207) 799-8191, or reach the Danvers office at (978) 904-1924 on the North Shore.
