Fueling happens at the fuel dock
South Port Marine does not run fuel to slips. There is no truck service, no mooring delivery, and no fueling anywhere else inside the basin. Every gallon goes aboard at the fuel dock.
Keeping fuel handling inside one area means the containment, the shutoffs, and the spill gear all sit where they belong, which protects Casco Bay water and every other boat in the marina.
Build the fuel stop into your run in or your run out. On summer weekends the dock gets busy, so hail on VHF channel 78 on the way in.
Call Before You Come InComing Into The Dock
The fuel dock sits on the South Portland waterfront at 14 Ocean Street, a short run in from Casco Bay and close to Portland’s Old Port district.
Thirteen feet alongside means most boats working these waters come in on any stage of the tide, including deeper-draft cruisers and downeast hulls that get turned away from shallower docks. The bulkhead runs 125 feet and the marina takes vessels up to 160 feet.
Tide range here averages 8 feet, so current runs through the approach on a moving tide. Rig fenders and lines on both sides before you make the turn in, because the side you land on depends on who is already alongside when you arrive.

What a Maine winter does to the fuel in your tank
Your boat sits from November to April, and temperature swings pull moist air through the tank vent the whole time. Ethanol blends absorb that water until the fuel phase separates. Diesel does not absorb it at all, so it pools at the bottom and grows a bacterial mat. The first hard chop of the season stirs it up and sends it straight to your filters.
- Fill the tank before layup to cut the air space that breeds condensation.
- Dose gasoline with a stabilizer and diesel with a biocide.
- Change filters at spring commissioning, not after the first offshore run.
ABYC-certified technicians handle fuel systems through the service department, and the parts counter covers do-it-yourself jobs. Boats laid up in indoor heated storage get winterized before they go inside.
